Viruses, Trojan Horses, and Worms, Oh My!

Viruses have been a problem for many years. Hoaxes are en equally dangerous problem, because the uninformed user will sometimes follow the advice given through these hoaxes, and remove vital system files from their machine. This page provides students, faculty, and staff information about this very real threat. Additional information can be obtained from the I. T. Coordinator.

Louisiana Tech University, invests in virus protection technology that is implemented at the email server, file server, and desktop level. The virus information is regularly updated to provide the best protection possible, even with this in place, viruses and trojan horses can infect the machines through downloaded screen savers, cursor programs, file sharing programs like Kazaa, and floppy, zip, or compact disc media from machines that are unprotected.
