Recommended Order of Courses
COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Freshman Year

  • CIS 110: Computer Tools for Business. Should be taken as soon as the student declares CIS as a major or, preferably, during the first quarter for first-time freshmen. This course is offered every quarter.

Sophomore Year

  • CIS 315: Problem Solving and Introduction to Programming. Prerequsite is CIS 110. This course is a prerequisite to most CIS 300- and 400-level courses. This course is offered in the fall and spring quarters. Ideally it should be taken in the spring.

Junior Year

  • CIS 310: Principles of Information Systems. Prerequisite is CIS 110. This course is offered every quarter. Ideally it should be taken in the fall of the junior year.
  • CIS 323: Database System Management. Prerequisites are CIS 110. CIS 323 should be taken early in the junior year. This course is offered in fall and winter quarters.
  • CIS 335: Application Development for the Internet. Prerequisites are CIS 315 and 323. This course is offered in the winter and spring quarters. Ideally it should be taken in the winter quarter of the junior year
  • CIS 421: Introduction to Information System Assurance. This course is offered in the fall and spring quarters.

Senior Year

  • CIS 444: Network Design & Implementation. Prerequisite is CIS 110. This course is offered in the fall and spring quarters. (Some group work is required). Ideally it should be taken in the fall.
  • CIS 450: Systems Analysis, Design, & Implementation. Prerequisites are CIS 335, and 444 (CIS 444 may be a co-requisite). CIS capstone course - all other CIS courses should be completed prior to enrolling. This course is offered in the fall and spring quarters. (Extensive group work is required).

Electives

  • CIS 401: Internship in CIS. Students are encouraged to pursue relevant work experience through enrollment in an internship course. Internship courses in the CAB may be used for a CAB Elective.
  • CIS 325: Enterprise Systems and Integration. Prerequisite is CIS 110. This course is offered in spring quarter.
  • CIS 422: Incident Response and Computer Forensics. Prerequisite is CIS 421. This course is usually offered in the spring quarter.
  • CIS 423: Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity. Prerequisite is CIS 421. This course is offered in the fall quarter.
  • CIS 424: Information Systems Assurance Risk Analysis. Prerequisite is CIS 421. This course is offered in the spring quarter.
