Distinguished Alumni 2008

Sharilyn Gasaway, College of Business 2008 Alumnus of the Year

Sharilyn Gasaway currently serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Alltel Corporation, a Fortune 500 wireless carrier headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas. Sharilyn was named Alltel's CFO in January 2006 during a critical period in Alltel's history. Shortly after she took on that role, Alltel spun off its wireline business into a separate publicly traded company, creating Windstream, and leaving Alltel as a pure play wireless company, the 5th largest wireless carrier with over 13 million customers and over $8 billion in annual revenue.

More recently, Sharilyn was part of the executive team that spearheaded publicly traded Alltel's transition through the largest private equity buyout in the telecom sector. TPG Capital and GS Capital Partners purchased Alltel for $27.5 billion in November 2007.  In June 2008, Verizon Wireless agreed to acquire Alltel, a transaction valued at $28.1 billion and expected to close in December of 2008 after regulatory approvals are obtained.

Sharilyn joined Alltel in 1999 as director of general accounting and has served in various roles, including Controller and Vice President of accounting and finance. Prior to joining Alltel, she worked eight years with big six accounting firm, Arthur Andersen LLC. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Louisiana Tech University and she is a Certified Public Accountant.

Sharilyn is a Board member of the American Red Cross of Greater Arkansas and serves on its audit committee. She is also on the Louisiana Tech University School of Accountancy Advisory Board. She resides in Little Rock with her husband and their twins, Lauryn and Logan.
