Careers as an Accountant
The successful placement of Tech's graduates through the years continues to give our graduates an edge over others because of the strong relationships we have with accounting firms and the corporate world. This can mean a better, higher paying position when you leave Tech.

At Tech, you will be prepared for a variety of positions due to the versatility of an accounting background. Many of our graduates work in the field of public accounting or begin their careers in a wide variety of positions with companies in various industries. Experienced accountants command some of the highest salaries in business. Often, these individuals are an integral part of corporate management and may be company Presidents and Chief Executive Officers, Chief Financial Officers, or Corporate Controllers. Others choose to work in accounting firms where they can offer assurance services, financial advising, tax planning, or a variety of consulting services to clients.

Still other graduates have chosen to work in government positions with agencies like the state legislative auditor, Government Accounting Office, and the IRS. Some even work with the FBI.

Recently, some of our graduates have accepted positions with accounting firms such as KPMG; Heard, McElroy & Vestal; Cole, Evans & Peterson; and Ernst & Young. Others have accepted offers from Exxon Mobil Corporation, International Paper, CenturyTel, Shell Oil Company, and others.

For additional career information, the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) maintains an excellent listing of career paths at http://www.aicpa.org/nolimits/job/paths/. You might select "The Turn Around Game" where the future of Big Noizz, a failing record company, is your hands. You must use your street smarts and business skills to save the company. You could also choose "Catch Me if You Can" where you will discover and deal with murder, fraud, and theft.
